SPRING 2008 BREEDING PEN UPDATE:
In March 2008 I will have one breeding pen ready, consisting of the following:
Cockerel 1: Golden Duckwing cockerel. Rumpless, well-balanced bilateral tufts, yellow legs, good type. Not pictured, but fathered by Galeno (see "pictures" page).
Pullet 1: Golden Duckwing pullet. Rumpless, single tuft, willow legs, slightly leggy but otherwise good type. Not pictured.
Pullet 2: Golden Duckwing pullet. Rumpless, clean headed, willow legs, slightly leggy but otherwise good type. Not pictured.
Hen 1: Silver Duckwing hen. Rumpless, clean headed, pink legs, good type. ("Devante", shown on the "pictures" page).
Hen 2: Blue-Buff hen. Rumpless, beautiful bilateral tufts, willow legs, on the small side but excellent type ("Pigpen", shown on the "pictures" page).
Hen 3: White hen. Tailed, perfect bilateral tufts, yellow legs, excellent type. Not pictured.

HATCHING EGGS FOR SALE

You are bidding on ten (10) Modern Araucana Hatching Eggs.
Hatching eggs will vary in size, but all are from standard-sized birds. Eggs will be blue and green (egg color is not as good as I had hoped this year, please know that you will get a good number of green eggs). Eggs will be collected from whichever hens are laying at the time.
Since Modern Araucanas do not breed true, you may get birds with two tufts, one tuft, or no tufts. Though the majority of the hatchlings are usually rumpless, you will probably get some with tails. You will NOT get any beards or muffs on your chicks (beards and muffs are disqualifications in the U.S.). As far as coloration goes, you will probably get a large percentage of Golden Duckwings, Silver Duckwings, and Black-Breasted Reds, with the occasional blue, blue/red, blue/gold, buff, or splash.
Leg color on chicks will likely be willow and/or yellow, with some pink or slate-legged oddballs.
Fertility testing from this pen is currently in progress. Please be aware that hatchability of Araucana eggs is notoriously low due to the lethal gene associated with tufts. The eggs will be packed with great care, but due to variables that are out of my control (shipping, incubation, the dice-throw of genetics, and plain ol' luck) I cannot guarantee results. The buyer must realize that shipped hatching eggs, ESPECIALLY Araucana eggs, are always a gamble. I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU LEARN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE ABOUT THIS RARE BREED BEFORE BUYING. THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS FOR POOR HATCHES.
Eggs will be shipped to the winning bidder via 3-day Priority Mail on the Tuseday following auction's end, provided payment has been received at least 24 hours prior. Eggs will be shipped within the continental United States ONLY. IF YOU INTEND TO RATE THIS SELLER BASED ON HATCH RATE, PLEASE DO NOT BID, as this is unfair to the seller.
